The Hitcher (The Mighty Boosh) vs. The Joker (The Dark Knight)

Posted on: January 16, 2009

I was at The Mighty Boosh live the other day, which was awesome beyond awesome, when suddenly I had the most horrible thought. The Hitcher has fangirls. Which therefore could lead to ultra-badfic. Which could lead to a Harley Quinn situation. Which, for The Hitcher, would be a terrible idea. But then I started to compare him to The Joker as portrayed by Heath Ledger, and it struck me how bloody similar they seem to be. And so… I have comprised a little list.

1. Both use knives to kill people
-The Joker uses a knife to savour all the little emotions…
-The Hitcher uses a knife to slash you one way, slash you the other, slash you diagonal, because he’s Connect 4… in dagger terms.

2. Each have a disfigurement.
-“You wanna know how I got these scars?”
-“Wanna know about my thumb, boy?!”

3. Each have really bad dental hygiene
-Of course he has no dental records!
-Cockney nutjobs don’t need toothpaste

4. Each have a “look”
-Surreal clownish make-up and a purple and green ensemble
-Green face with a white stripe and a Polo mint motif

5. Each tell differing stories about their past
-The story about his father/The story about his wife
-His mother threw him out because of his disgustingly small thumb/He was an orphan who got free eels off Elsie

6. Each have nemeses
-Vince Noir/Howard Moon

7. Each have unknown real names and instead use a moniker with a “The” at the start
-The Joker (obviously)
-The Hitcher (-_-)

8. Each have more than one name
-The Ace of Knaves, The Clown Prince of Crime, The Harlequin of Hate
-Baboo Yagu, The Green Man-Witch, The Hoxton Rapist

9. Each have faithful goons
-The Joker has a whole host of henchmen, one in the film is named as Thomas Schiff
-The Hitcher has an entire troupe as per the latest live show; in the TV series he has Jim and Jackie Piper who are twins

10. Each use(d) extortion
-The Joker used to rip off mob dealers, for example…
-The Hitcher ran a protection racket on the Nabootique (“Eels”)

11. Each had a story of a neglectful parent
-Father was a fiend, slashed his mouth
-Mother threw him out to walk the streets because of his disappointingly small digit

12. Both murder for fun
I don’t think I really need to explain that one

Basically, I’m just pointing out the similarities. It’s almost like Christopher Nolan is a fan of The Boosh. Except not.
